Anna-Lou “Annie” Leibovitz (born October 2, 1949) is an American portrait photographer. Her style is marked by collaborations between the photographer and the subject.

Beginnings Anna-Lou “Annie” Leibovitz father was in the Air Force and because the family frequently moved she started by taking pictures while he was stationed in the Philippines.

Career She started her career in 1970 as a staff photographer at Rolling Stone magazine where she later became Chief Photographer for 10 years. In the 1980’s she worked with Vanity Fair magazine. She has a number of noted projects, one of her most famous being the cover photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1981 for Rolling Stone magazine, sadly Leibovitz was the last person to photograph them both professionally because five hours later John Lennon was shot and killed.

Controversy Anna-Lou “Annie” Leibovitz took a number of photographs that always caused a bit of controversy with the public. Demi Moore was photographed twice, once pregnant and in the nude, and another with a painted suit on her body. And most recently Miley Cyrus in Vanity Fair semi-nude.

Business Ventures In 1991 Anna-Lou “Annie” Leibovitz was the first living woman to exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery. She also published a number of books with her amazing work.

Today Anna-Lou “Annie” Leibovitz continues to be one of the best portrait photographers in America and is still greatly in demand for capturing images of today’s celebrities and athletes.
