Anne Geddes (born in Australia, September 13, 1956) is an Australian-born photographer, clothing designer, and philanthropist who rose to international fame through her distinctive portraits of babies, children, and expectant mothers.
Style Unique Baby and Motherhood Photography with elaborate, fantasy-based settings that transform babies into elements of nature or fairy-tale characters.
Beginnings Born in Queensland, Australia, Anne Geddes grew up on her family's cattle farm. There weren't any photography courses in her school growing up so she fell in love with Life and National Geographic magazines and the images that were portrayed.
Career Anne Geddes worked in various roles unrelated to photography, including in hotels while traveling overseas, where she began taking pictures to document her adventures. She later owned a clothing store and worked as a secretary at a television station. Her breakthrough came in 1992 with her calendar "Down in the Garden," featuring babies styled as flowers and garden creatures. This led to her first book of the same name in 1996, which sold over 1.8 million copies worldwide.
Commercial Success Anne Geddes has sold millions of calendars and books, with her publications translated into 24 different languages and sold in over 83 countries. Her books include "Until Now" (1998), "Pure" (2002), and "Small World" (2017). She has expanded her brand into greeting cards, baby clothing, and fine art prints.
Business Ventures In 2004, Anne Geddes collaborated with Céline Dion on "Miracle: A Celebration of New Life," which combined her photography with Dion's music in a multimedia celebration of motherhood.
Philanthropy Anne Geddes established the Geddes Philanthropic Trust in 1992 to help prevent child abuse and neglect worldwide. In 2013, she became an official Global Advocate for Shot@Life, a United Nations Foundation campaign for children's vaccines.
